Research Associate - Solar Controls
We are looking for energetic, intellectually curious and ambitious people to join our research team. If you are detail oriented, passionate about energy, have strong quantitative and communication skills, and are looking to challenge yourself and learn more than you ever thought possible, we'd love to talk to you. As a Research Associate, you will be:
- Assisting senior research staff with primary PV sector and PV inverters and controls research efforts through analysis of financial, economic and other data using spreadsheets, databases and computer models
- Tracking down difficult-to-find information on public and private companies and PV-related markets, particularly related to the PV inverters and controls market
- Executing interview-based primary research with industry contacts and clients primarily in the PV inverters and controls space
- Reviewing and synthesizing written third-party industry materials, including trade press reports, analyst information and client materials
- Leading production efforts associated with translating research team analysis into written deliverables, including PowerPoint presentations, emails and reports
The role requires the following experience, skills and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in an analytical/quantitative discipline (math/science, economics, engineering, finance or business)
- Strong record of success, academically or professionally, in a research environment and particularly in quantitative skills
- Solid analytical skills including background/experience with problem structuring and quantitative methods of analysis and mid-to-advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communications skills and an ability to translate complex information into a compelling and concise story
- Ability to work well as part of team
- A strong desire to challenge yourself and willingness to work hard
- A focused, rigorous and open minded approach to learning
It's a plus to have:
- Experience with computer programming and basic statistics
- Knowledge of and familiarity with company financial statement analysis
- Business proficiency in a language other than English (particularly Mandarin or Japanese)

Senior Analyst - Solar Controls
PHOTON Consulting is seeking an experienced and talented Senior Analyst to join our research team in Boston to help us drive research and analysis of the PV inverters and controls space. This is a senior level, thought-leader role. The person in this role will be conducting research and analysis, leading teams, proactively looking at company decisions and market events to forecast sector accounting, driving the overall analytical approach and distilling and communicating findings to clients. PHOTON Consulting is the leading advisor to the solar PV industry. Our clients span the globe and the solar value chain - from materials production through module and inverter fabrication to electricity generation and monitoring.
This role requires the following experience, skills and abilities:
- At least 5 years experience in the solar/renewable energy sector, including, but not limited to, roles in: PV manufacturing or operations (including P & L responsibility), PV sector market consulting or market analysis/strategic planning function in a PV or power electronics company, with preference for some experience working outside the United States
- Strong expertise in the PV power electronics supply chain, including knowledge of PV companies, technologies and manufacturing processes, the impact of PV on traditional electricity markets, knowledge of generation/transmission/distribution/metering technologies, regulatory structures and economics
- A bachelor's degree in a quantitative and/or technology oriented undergraduate degree such as engineering or economics, and a graduate degree in business or similar work experience
- Strong work habits with proven track record of driving results
- Strong skills in speaking to and working with C-level executives of large companies
- Analytical in orientation, with the ability to both dive deep and see the big picture.
- Capability to analyze a situation from a client’s perspective and shape client communications accordingly
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to all audiences
- Experienced with and understands the practicalities of technology/markets (PV or traditional electricity)
- Driven by a strong team orientation, focusing on team results and on developing/mentoring teammates
- Fluency in an Asian language, particularly Mandarin, is a plus

Account Executive
We are seeking an experienced, polished and energetic Account Executive to sell and promote Photon Consulting products. Our clients choose us for our deep expertise to help them make actionable decisions and anticipate future trends in an evolving global PV sector - the Account Executive will manage and expand existing and new client relationships for at least 50, and up to 75 accounts.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Solid experience with both new client acquisitions and account management, including at least 6 years progressive experience selling data, research or consulting services
- BA/BS in Business, Marketing or related discipline
- Innovative and results driven with experience in business content management and collaboration
- A proven track record of success, driving revenue growth against quota and increased profitability
- Ability to provide accurate forecasting, develop and manage pipeline
- Entrepreneurial and self-directed with a passion to succeed
- Analytical and metrics driven
- Knowledge and use of Salesforce.com strongly desired
